Amy Winehouse on the Road to Recovery from Drug Addiction

Grammy award-winning singer Amy Winehouse, who consistently makes headlines for her troubles with drugs and alcohol, is on her way to recovery from drug addiction after an eight-month stay in the Caribbean, her mother said in an interview.

The London-born singer arrived home to Britain last week from the island of St. Lucia, where her actions with other men prompted her estranged husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, to divorce her on grounds of adultery. They were married for two years, and Fielder-Civil spent much of last year in prison for a vicious attack on a pub landlord and a subsequent cover-up attempt.

Janice Winehouse told Closer magazine, “A year ago, everyone was saying: ‘Will she get through this, will she even survive?’ And look at her now. We’ve got the old Amy back. I always knew she’d come through. And I know she doesn’t want to go back to the drugs.”

Amy’s mother admitted that Amy still has a problem with drinking. “Saint Lucia was good in many ways because there were no hard drugs around, but she was bored, so she drank,” she said.

Janice explained that she has spent some time with her 25-year-old daughter since she returned. “She’s put on a bit of weight and looks better than she has in a long time,” she said. “She was busy cooking, so that’s a good sign that she’s actually eating. I think she’s pleased to be home and I know she’s happier now.”

Amy won five Grammy awards for her 2006 album “Back to Black” and the hit single “Rehab.”
